About us

Here & There Makers - Caring for People and the Planet sells zero waste, upcycled, fair trade and handmade products created both locally and globally.

We are for people who actively want to live more sustainably and reduce their waste output.

Here and There Makers is the brainchild of Michelle Gates, who passionately volunteered for Days for Girls for over 6 years.  She co-ordinated the Ferntree Gully Chapter from its inception until December 2019 and has been recognised by groups such as Zonta and Inner Wheel for her community contribution.  She regularly presents and runs workshops with Schools and other community groups.

In 2015, Michelle visited East Timor and saw first hand the positive impact that can be made as she provided training, sewing machines and kits to a shelter for abused girls.  Her heart for others and for the planet is evident, and HTM is both a passion and a long-held dream to run a zero waste, environmentally aware business that also helps to make things better for real people.

Here and There Makers sees itself as an enabler for everyone to move to a more zero waste lifestyle.  We source products ethically and support other social enterprises and Fair Trade organisations.  We also help local makers by paying them to help make our locally produced, hand made products.  For some it's their main source of income, for others it's a great hobby.  Many donate their earnings elsewhere such as back to Days for Girls.

We hope we do more than just sell products - we want to be a catalyst for a better world, help our local community and provide an outstanding experience for our customers, suppliers, volunteers and staff.

Recycling

What is Terracycle?

TerraCycle is Eliminating the Idea of Waste® by recycling the non-recyclable. Whether it's coffee capsules from your home, pens from a school, or plastic gloves from a manufacturing facility, TerraCycle can collect and recycle almost any form of waste. We partner with individual collectors such as yourself, as well as major consumer product companies, retailers, manufacturers, municipalities, and small businesses across 20 different countries. With your help, we are able to divert millions of pounds of waste from landfills and incinerators each month.

Click the links to jump to the Terracycle website and find out more detail about each item (will open a new window).  Scroll down on each page to the Accepted Waste section.

We can no longer accept recycling drop offs as our physical store has closed.  Click the image below to go to the Terracycle website and search for your local program drop off points.
